Filter coffee: a love coming from the North

The percolation of coffee was perfected in the early twentieth century, more precisely in 1908 in Germany, where filter coffee drinking started its life. Then, the filter coffee spread around the world and now the nations of the "North" (United States and northern European countries) are the major consumers and admirers.
The first filter coffee was “home made”, where a cone of glass (or metal) with a bottom hole was put into a glass pot. To obtain this type of filter coffee was used a coffee powder grinded in a thick way, and an absorbent filter paper was placed at the top of the pot. The water needed for the preparation was heated separately and then poured over the ground coffee.
Today people is using automatic machines for boiling the water and percolating the coffee powder thru the paper. The water dissolves the water-soluble substances that are into the coffee powder when crossing the ground coffee. The final beverage is a coffee drink with a low body but with a good and delicate aroma.
The coffee grinding is very important for preparing the filter coffee. It the grinding is too coarse the coffee taste is quite weak, while is the grinding too thin the taste becomes bitter. So the right type of grinding for having a good coffee filter is in the average.
