The crisis is not holding back coffee consumption. As reported by Sole24Ore despite a slight drop in consumption, Italy ranks third in Europe for coffee roasting. "Driving the market," explains the Italian Coffee Committee, "are mainly exports of roasted coffee, destined in particular for European countries (for 70 percent), as well as the United States, Australia and the Russian Federation, with a significant increase in the United Arab Emirates and China.

A positive trend that began in 2013 and was also confirmed in 2014, with increases in both green coffee imports and roasted coffee exports.

Excellent results were also achieved in the single-serving coffee sector (in capsules, pods, etc.), which grew by 9.1 percent in 2014, with a total value of 982 million. Driving the sector is sales in foreign markets (+17.6 percent), while sales in the domestic market mark +5.3 percent.

In 2014, Italy thus confirmed its third place in Europe (and fourth in the world, after Germany, Belgium and the United States) for roasted coffee exports.
