We often read in various magazines, food labels, newspapers, etc. that moderate caffeine consumption is recommended during the day...well...how much does this moderate consumption correspond to?

In an adult it is equivalent to about 300 mg per day, and to get a practical idea of what that means in terms of dosage, here are the amounts of caffeine contained in some of the most common beverages (Average amount per serving):

- Instant coffee: 75 mg in a 190 ml cup
- Filter coffee (American coffee, percolated coffee): 85 mg in a 190 ml cup
- Espresso coffee: 30-50 mg in a 30 ml cup
- Tea: 50 mg in a 190 ml cup
- Energy drinks (with caffeine or guarana): 28-87 mg in a 250-ml cup
- Cola (diet or regular): 8-53 mg in a 250-ml cup
- Other soft drinks: 24 mg in a 250-ml cup
- Chocolate: 5.5-35.5 mg in a 50-g bar
