There used to be a custom in Naples of "suspended coffee," meaning coffee was paid for and left available to those who could not afford it. Starting Dec. 10 (a day dedicated to human rights), patrons and cafes throughout Italy are invited to resume the custom.
The idea is from the Rete del caffè Sospeso, a collection of seven small festivals that want to spread the culture of solidarity.
