Espresso coffee is made in Italy: the father of this great all-Italian tradition is Luigi Bezzera, a Milanese engineer who in November 1901 filed a patent for the first model of espresso bar machine. The idea of designing a steam mechanism to prepare coffee followed that process of mechanization that has characterized the history of industrial design since the nineteenth century, and so even in the restaurant sector there had been efforts to optimize the preparation, and consumption, of this beverage. Over the years, the espresso machine has become one of the symbols ofItalian life style, on a par with many other models and styles launched by the BelPaese.
