Fairtrade is an international movement that fosters the development of countries in the Global South, whereby green coffee is purchased without middlemen directly from small farmers, who are given a fairer price.

A fair trade coffee, guaranteed by the Fairtrade/TransFaire logo respects these principles:

1) Payment of a "fair" price that covers production costs, allows a decent wage for workers, and leaves a margin for social or productive investments;

2) Willingness to pre-finance purchases to prevent indebtedness and recourse to moneylenders that would nullify the benefits of the fair price;

3) Commitment to long-term business relationships so that the producer group can plan for its future with greater certainty.
