Irish Coffee, or Irish coffee, is nothing more than hot, sweetened coffee laced with whiskey and with a layer of cream on top.
Behind this cocktail are two stories that claim its paternity:
- the first tells that the paternity of Irish Coffee is claimed by the Irish town of Foynes in whose harbor bars this coffee cocktail was served to warm up passengers returning from trans-Atlantic crossings.
- The second tells us that Irish coffee was invented by such a Mr. Joe Sheridan, head bartender in the Shannon Airport bar in Ireland, who, to warm up a group of parched passengers, came up with this cocktail. The story ends with the passengers asking Mr. Sheridan if he had served them Brazilian coffee, and the barman amusedly replied, " No, it's Irish coffee!"
