Coffee producers are the countries of the tropical belt, where the climate is particularly favorable to the plant's cultivation: Central and South America (from Mexico to Brazil, from Guatemala to Colombia) Africa (Ethiopia, Ivory Coast, Congo, Tanzania) and Asia (in which Vietnam, the world's second largest producer after Brazil, as well as the Philippines, Indonesia, and India, stands out).
From these countries the grains are then exported all over the world to be roasted, ground and packaged in different formats. Italy is in this sense one of the leading players in the market: the more than 700 roasters in Italy import between 8 and 9 million tons of green coffee each year, mainly from Brazil, Vietnam, India, Uganda and Indonesia.
In terms of sales, our country is the third in Europe and the fourth in the world for roasted coffee exports, after Germany, Belgium and the United States. The main destination markets for coffee processed in Italy are European Union countries (primarily France, Germany and Austria), as well as the United States, Australia, and Russia. Exports to the United Arab Emirates and China have also grown in recent times.
