In spring 2009 Co.ind decided to replace the raw coffee plant because it was deemed insufficient and technologically inadequate to support increased production volumes. The new plant was commissioned from Probat Werke (a leading global supplier in the industry) in February 2007 and started up in early April 2009. The plant controls the raw coffee process (conventional, decaffeinated, organic) at the following stages: receiving, cleaning, storage, blending. From the outside, theplant appears as a 26-meter-high tower, while inside it consists of a receiving pit that can be used with 60-kg bags, big bags, tanks, and bulk insidecontainers. The plant, which contains 3 receiving and testing silos totaling 33 tons, and 45 storage silos totaling429tons of green coffee, is equipped by a powerful dust extraction system, which is active both when unloading into the pit and as a support to the cleaning machines. This system is equipped by a series of filters with progressive effectiveness so that air can circulate inside the tower, thus avoiding emissions into the atmosphere. Co.ind with this investment has obtained, in addition to undoubted logistical advantages of handling and scheduling of production activities, an improvement in the cleanliness of green coffee with consequent benefits both in the downstream process (roasting, grinding, packaging) and in the quality of the beverage yield in the cup.(16/03/09)
